Have you ever sat at a wedding, looked around and wondered why everything is so round?
I bet now I’ve mentioned it you are picturing the last wedding you went to and wondering whether there were lots of circles?!
For that reason, we decided to be that little bit different and throw in a few 90 degree angles to make our wedding shoot more square...hence the title...
This ‘Square’ photoshoot took place at the NEW DIY wedding venue ‘ Home Farm Barns ’ in Ower, nr. Romsey. With it being a completely blank canvas, we were lucky enough to really go wild and show off our creative streaks...
Not only that but with the size of the barn we were able to invite along a few more wedding suppliers to showcase their work, some of which quite often get forgotten when it comes to photoshoots. For example, florists, dresses, suits, a cake and stationery are generally the norm, so we invited along a photobooth, DJ, bar and caterer too. Having these suppliers join us made this shoot feel more like a ‘REAL’ wedding which is what every couple wants to see when planning their own wedding. It also showed off the incredible space this fabulous NEW wedding venue has...
So, grab a cup of tea, sit back and enjoy this fabulous gallery of images captured by the totally awesome Atlas Photography...
Outside on the lawn we set up a square shaped seating area ready for a ceremony led by Diane from Family Tree Ceremonies. Having a square seating area means there is a better view for all your guests and instead of one front row you have now gained four!
In the centre of the seating area Laurel Designs positioned a wooden arch which Rust & Reclaim hung some beautifully handcrafted copper squares from. To compliment the arch and copper squares, Event Flowers Hampshirearranged some beautiful florals of amaranthus green pearl, dahlias, roses and a beautiful trumpet vine.
Our bride Sophie modelled two dresses, the first one worn outside was a striking and quite different dress called ‘Shay’ by designer Willowby by Watters.
The second dress featured inside the barn was called ‘Something Blue’ by designer Dando London, both supplied by The Bridal Dressing Roomsbased in Cosham.
To compliment both dresses Robyn Randall MUAkept Sophie's make-up soft and glowing. Opting for a warm almost burgundy eye which suited Sophie's eye colour and matched the colours in the bouquet. With bronzed cheeks and a champagne highlight Robyn chose a nude lip to keep the focus on Sophie's beautiful skin and eyes.
When plain won’t do...go for check! This very dapper navy check slim fit suit from Charles Gale Formal Wear Hireis the perfect choice for a modern barn wedding.
Dan mixed it up by changing into a plain royal blue suit paired with coral accessories from Charles Gale Formal Wear Hire. The alternative ‘flowercomb’ button hole arranged by Event Flowers Hampshiresat just perfectly in Dan’s top pocket.
Inside the barn Laurel Designs and Ginger Catering styled some beautiful square tables with square place settings with dried flower detail for the wedding breakfast. With square plates set on crisp white linen and a mix of dusky pink and charcoal grey napkins from 365 Linen Hirethe tables were ready for any wedding party.
Finished off with beautiful copper cutlery to match the quirky and stylish square copper flower vases by Rust &Reclaim.
It’s important your guests know where to sit for the wedding breakfast so Laurel Designs styled this beautiful rustic seating plan using large wooden crates at the entrance of the barn. With square frames sprayed in copper to compliment each table plan card it couldn’t have been more perfect and it was a definite show stopper for the guests to see on their arrival.
Once the table was dressed and the seating plan was in place, it meant the food was ready...
Ginger Cateringcreated this bang on trend ‘Spanish Market’ inspired tapas station to offer a grazing option.
For the mains they kept it local and whipped up these mouth-watering mains:
New Forest venison, confit potato fondant, rarebit mushroom, carrot puree, chantonnay carrots with blackberry jus...
New Forest venison loin with buttered cavolo nero, roasted sweet potato, butternut squash puree, crispy parsnips with a rosemary & blackberry jus.
The all important pudding was an Eton Mess Box, I mean if you decide to
go square why not have a square pudding!
Crème fraiche Chantilly cream, berry compote, wild strawberry gel with fresh berries...
If
you want to make more of a feature of your head table then you can always
create an eye-catching backdrop like Laurel Designs
did. With brightly
coloured flowers and a copper twist it was important we incorporated both these
elements to create some awesome head table images.
What better way than to
suspend off cuts of copper piping from a copper frame and to fill with bright
florals?
The best thing about this was you could move it, so if you wanted to use it somewhere else on your wedding day...
Next to the head table was this incredible square wedding cake created by Suzy Blake Cake Atelier. Suspended from one of the barns oak beams and decorated with Eucalyptus leaves around the top and bottom of the hanging cake structure, this new style of cake stand certainly gave this wedding cake the WOW factor!
Embossed with an ivy leaf veiner, dusted with edible dust and finished off with delicate handcrafted sugar flowers ...
Oh and we can't forget Sue's macaroon favours on the tables...
To go with your wedding breakfast and wedding cake you definitely need a drink!
NJAC Event Bars set up their rustic style bar and in true Tom Cruise style mixed up some super tasty cocktails...
With so many to choose from it’s a hard decision to make!
Passion on the Beach, June Bug, Blood Orange Collins, Mai Tai, Blue Daiquiri or the Pineapple Gin Fizz...
After a few drinks you need music so YOUR DJ had his fingers on the deck ready to mix some tunes and get everyone up on the dancefloor!
Sophie and Dan didn’t need many drinks to get their disco feet dancing...
When you need a break from the dancefloor then you can certainly have some fun with a photobooth. We were lucky enough to have Swit Swooo join us with two of their stylish retro booths, which of course were square! To match our styling, a foliage backdrop was set up with up-lighting and real vintage props to complete the look. With instant prints and a running slide show at the rear of the booth for your guests to view their photos and send the prints to their emails Swit Swoooreally are the ultimate in luxury photo entertainment.
As you can see Sophie and Dan had great fun messing around with the props!
For me, a videographer on your wedding day is a must!
Being able to look back in years to come to see and hear all your family and friends having fun on your wedding day is one of the most special keepsakes you can have. This beautiful footage was captured by Moonflower Film s , I am sure you will agree its a stunning love story of Sophie and Dan...
Trust me, if you are uncertain whether to book a videographer or not...
Although I am ending with the wedding stationery, this is something you might generally organise at the beginning of your wedding planning journey. To keep within our theme and styling Laurel Designsdesigned this gorgeous square invitation set with bright flower detail and a mix of colours to compliment the copper leaf touches.
Around the grounds of Home Farm Barns there are some really lovely spots for a couple to take a few moments to themselves on their wedding day. It also gives the perfect opportunity to capture some beautiful images...
Oh I can't forget to mention that if you are unlucky with the weather on your wedding day then there is plenty of space for seating and a ceremony in the barn if you need it...
Planning a DIY wedding can be really good fun especially when you can hold it in stunning DIY wedding venues such as Home Farm Barns. Doing it yourself means you have the freedom to do it your way with very limited restrictions and as Home Farm Barns only hold five weddings a year this venue is very special!
When booking a venue such as Home Farm Barns you want to make sure that on the day you have someone to take over all those little jobs, so you can relax and enjoy the day you have worked so hard to create.
I mean, who wants to be wondering if your suppliers have turned up, if they know where everything is, if your welcome drinks are ready to be served, who is serving them?, do you want to be clock watching all day so you can be sure everything is running to plan?
So, let me help you...as an ‘On the Day’ wedding co-ordinator I can be there to ensure your special day runs like clockwork.
Before your big day we will tailor a time-plan to suit your day making sure all those little jobs are listed which you may not have thought about. If you need extra helping hands, I can also bring experienced and professional team members to help serve drinks, collect glasses, serve canapes, clear plates, replenish table drinks... and the list goes on!
