Narnia - A Styled Photo-Shoot

The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe!

Planning and co-ordinating a styled photo-shoot that could ignite mystical and childhood memories was our idea of a perfect photo-shoot.

When visiting Lou and Colin at their venue, The Old Milking Parlour at Cavokay House , Sam from South Coast Weddings and I took a walk down to their woodland. Colin had a chunky wooden door from the renovation of their house which he had the idea of wedging between two trees. With a bit of girl-power and of course Colin-Power, we helped put it in position. Stepping back and admiring the door there was only one word that instantly sprung to mind…NARNIA!

So, this is where our shoot inspiration began…

Living in Dorset and being surrounded by fabulous wedding suppliers it didn’t take long to put together a group of very talented suppliers all wanting to collaborate.

Lou and Colin owned a snow and fog machine which soon set the scene for the wintery woodland NARNIA backdrop.

With beautiful dresses from Bridal Reloved in Dorchester , striking make-up from Festidolls and outstanding hair by Bournemouth Bridal Hair & Make-Up , our model Abbey Kearley looked truly stunning and soon got into the spirit of the Ice-Queen!

Our male model George Okoye with his amazing mane of dreadlocks gave the perfect appearance of Aslan (just to point out we don’t think he looks like a lion!). Georges tailored tweed suit from Wedding Time fitted perfectly against the natural woodland.

Every wedding needs a cake so Mon Bel Amour Cake Craft created two spectacular masterpieces to match the Narnia theme. You can see for yourself as the photos say it all!

A wedding also needs flowers, so Tillys Flowers made an elegant bouquet and matching button-hole to tie in with the snowy surroundings, as well as a statement woodland door decoration

Of course, when organising a wedding you need to have invites, save the dates and place settings. So, Sophie Amelia Designs designed a beautiful stationery set with pine cone place settings in keeping with the scenery.

Props were really important, so we used a sleigh as the cake stand and some old vintage cases from Oakland Collectibles , as well as a charming old chair found in Lou & Colins out-house, to represent the Ice Queens throne. As the shoot featured a door we thought it should naturally have a key, so the brilliant Lazercraftz cut an ornate wooden key. All of this was surrounded by lanterns and a lamp-post...

I mean, you can’t have Narnia without a lamp-post!

To capture this fantastic shoot we were lucky enough to have the very skilled Stephanie Atkins Photography who took these breath-taking photos and the very talented Thompson Wedding Films who produced this amazingly magical video...

Without these two we wouldn’t have ended up with such stunning shots!

So, with a bit of imagination and a great team of wedding suppliers it just shows what can be created.

You can find our shoot featured on Boho Weddings which we are extremely proud of!

I hope you like it as much as we do…your feedback below is much appreciated.

Lots of Love

Your DIY wedding planning journey can be hard work with a lot to think about and organise. For that reason it is important you actually enjoy your day without having to worry about who will do what jobs and when. Here you can read about Georgia and Phil's big day at Tournerbury Woods on Hayling Island and find out just how valuable it was for them to have a wedding co-ordinator to ensure they had a stress free wedding day.

In my opinion a DIY wedding is the perfect type of wedding as you can put your stamp on it and make it your own. Natalie and Jake had planned the most stunning DIY wedding at Bake Barn in Wiltshire and needed help with co-ordination on the day. Taking my team we made sure their day ran smoothly and to their time-plan doing all the jobs that needed doing. This meant they could enjoy every minute of their day with their friends and family - stress free!

Planning a DIY wedding is always so much fun but on the day there are so many jobs that need doing. Bex and Graham planned a beautiful and relaxed wedding at Warborne Farm in Lymington, Hampshire where the Tasha Mae team were able to help ensure all the jobs were done and their day ran smoothly so they didn't need to worry about a thing!

You have to love a marquee wedding in a field overlooking the sea, which is exactly what Keely and Dan planned for their big day. The Tasha Mae team loved co-ordinating their special DIY day and despite the strong winds and rain we all had a fabulous time ensuring everything ran like clockwork.

Winter weddings can be just as beautiful as summer weddings and after co-ordinating Jake and Laura's big day in December, I can most certainly vouch for that! You don't need to think of a theme with a twinkling Christmas tree, roaring fire and mince pies as canapes, what more could you ask for? Not only that but you don't need to worry about the weather as you've already planned it for the winter so you know what to aim for!

The beauty of planning your own DIY wedding is you can do exactly as you wish and after co-ordinating Cassie and Oliver's, I have to say there is something to be said for having your wedding at home in your back garden. With a relaxed, almost zen vibe, Cassie and Oliver had the most beautiful chilled out wedding day in the comfort of their family home and garden.

Deciding on your wedding decor is the fun part but on the day you might need some help putting everything in place whilst you get ready to tie the knot. Rachel and Ben had planned a DIY marquee wedding and needed some help in the morning of their big day to make sure their venue looked pretty and just as they wanted before everyone arrived.

As an on the day wedding co-ordinator so many of the weddings I co-ordinate are in the summer, which means the majority of my imagery are of bright sunny weddings. For that reason, I thought it was about time I showed everyone that winter weddings can be just as beautiful and somewhat mystical!

Planning a DIY wedding is great fun as it means you can personalise it and put your own stamp on your special day without lots of restrictions. This 'Real Wedding' blog tells the story of Katy and AJ who had their wedding reception in their parents garden with all their own handmade props.
